Sermon Preview 5.24.09

Are you serving God with excellence or are you just giving Him the leftovers of your life?

This Sunday we continue our sermon series "God Given Guidelines for Growing a Great Church" with Guideline #4 - Excellence: Do Your Best in Every Area of Service. Our text will be Malachi 1:6-14.

I understand that it's easy to get off track. Sometimes we're in such a hurry taking care of all the "real important stuff" in our lives that we forget to think about God and giving Him the first fruits of our labor.

Well, it's time to slowdown. It's time to get intentional about serving God with EXCELLENCE!

God gave us the best He had; His own son Jesus Christ to suffer and die for our sins.

Will you offer Him any less than your best?

Join us this Sunday for a "Most Excellent Worship Service".

Sermon Preview 5.17.09

This Sunday we'll return to our sermon series "God Given Guidelines for Growing a Great Church". We'll be looking at Guideline #3: Develop Christ Centered Leaders that Lead by Example.

To be a great church, we have to have Christ centered leadership. We have to develop leaders that will guide our congregation for years to come; who are respected by all who know them and who are sold out for the cause of Christ.

But what does leadership look like? We could spend a month of Sundays talking about leadership but this Sunday we'll focus on the "Character of Leadership" and the "Capabilities of Leadership".

Our text will be 1 Peter 5:1-4. Join us this Sunday as we discuss God's view of leadership.

See ya Sunday!

Ten Thoughts for New Believers

1. You will still have problems.
2. You can't do it alone.
3. You've got to learn to feed yourself.
4. Get up quickly when you fall.
5. This race is a marathon.
6. You are probably God's greatest tool in reaching others.
7. Don't worry about the things you don't understand.
8. Your growth will come the fastest through the sharing of yourself.
9. Saying yes to God means saying no to some other things.
10. Never forget that God will never give up on you.

Reflections on Mother's Day

She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:26-30

Yesterday was Mother's Day; a day when we honor our moms.

My mom has been gone for 5 years now and I miss her dearly. I miss being able to give her a hug and tell her how much I love and appreciate her. I miss the woman who became my hero and the reflection of Christ on Earth to me. How do I honor her now that she's gone? I honor her with my life. I serve the Lord and preach his word. I love my kids and honor my wife.

Yesterday was Mother's Day; a day when we honor our wives.

I've been married to my wife for 13 years now. It's been amazing to watch her grow as a wife and mother. I don't think she planned on marrying a pastor and living in Northern Alabama but she married me and she followed me. In some ways I'd like to believe she's done it all for me but the truth is she does what she does to serve the Lord and her family. She left her mom, dad, brother and friends; a job she loved and a home she knew all because the Lord and I asked her to. How do I honor a wife like this? I honor her with my life. I place her needs above my needs. I place her life above my own. I love her as Christ loves his church.

I wasn't the son I wanted to be. I'm not the husband I'd like to be. Lord, grant me the grace to be the man you called me to be.

May every day be Mother's Day.

I love you both.

Sermon Preview 5.10.09

Happy Mother's Day! We'll be taking a break from our current sermon series to honor our Moms.

The title of my sermon this Sunday is "A Mother's Love". Our text will be Matthew 20:20-23. We'll be looking at Mrs. Zebedee and the love she had for her two sons, James and John. Many people may criticize Mrs. Zebedee for asking the Lord to allow her sons to sit on His right and left hand in His Kingdom but I believe that it also reveals her love for them.

1. She prayed that her sons might be a part of the Kingdom of God.
2. She prayed that her sons would be involved in the the work of His Kingdom
3. She had big expectations for her boys.

It's hard to find fault with a mother who desires to see her children serve the Lord in a mighty way!

Join us as we celebrate Mother's Day and partake in the Lord's Supper together as God's family.

Love ya and we'll see you on Sunday!
